## About the Role
Crunchyroll is hiring a Senior Database Operations Engineer in Hyderabad to maintain and enhance the reliability, scalability, and performance of its data infrastructure. The role sits within the Data Engineering organization and focuses heavily on database architecture, SQL optimization, cloud database operations, monitoring, automation, and database performance engineering.
## Responsibilities
- Define database strategy, best practices, storage-engine usage, and long-term data placement strategies.
- Analyze application performance and eliminate SQL query bottlenecks through query optimization, indexing, execution-plan analysis, and data-model improvements.
- Design and scale AWS-native database architectures using Amazon RDS, Aurora for MySQL/PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB.
- Investigate database internals including memory usage, replication lag, locking, disk I/O, and system saturation.
- Establish database monitoring, alerting, automation, and operational standards.
- Partner with application and data engineers to optimize database access patterns and schemas.
- Work with Database SRE teams on infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code.
- Improve database reliability, availability, throughput, and latency at scale.
- Develop and automate incident-response, compliance, governance, and database maintenance processes.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across the organization.
## Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in database operations, data platforms, data stores, or a related field.
- Deep hands-on experience with AWS RDS, Amazon Aurora, and NoSQL databases.
- Strong AWS cloud experience with data-related services.
- Advanced SQL and query optimization skills.
- Strong understanding of indexes, schemas, query plans, database internals, and performance metrics.
- Experience managing large-scale SQL and NoSQL data infrastructures.
- Experience with database monitoring tools such as Datadog, CloudWatch, DevOps Guru, or AWS Performance Insights.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python or Java.
- Knowledge of CI/CD, DatabaseOps, data governance, compliance, and lifecycle management.
- Strong troubleshooting, ownership, communication, and mentoring skills.
## Nice to Have
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code for database infrastructure.
- Experience with high-availability and disaster-recovery architectures.
- Advanced knowledge of replication and database locking mechanisms.
- Experience with load testing and capacity planning.
- Experience building 100% automated database monitoring and operational workflows.
- Experience working closely with Database SRE and platform engineering teams.
